Rudy’s Original® Boysenberry Syrup
Boysenberry Syrup made with Rudy’s Original® Heritage Boysenberries. Did you know the boysenberry was born in Napa California? Rudy Boysen worked on a small prune farm in Napa during the early 1920s. When he wasn’t busy managing the farm, he loved to cross pollinate various berries with the trailing blackberries in the creek bed running through the farm.
In 1923, his efforts were rewarded when he cross pollinated Loganberry with the trailing blackberry and a wonderfully large and flavorful new hybrid, the boysenberry, was born!

I live in St Louis and had been looking for boysenberry syrup for years recently. Silver Dollar City near Branson used to carry it but stopped a few years ago. It’s so hard to find. Then last year, I found Rudy’s and ordered a couple bottles of the syrup. It was shipped promptly in great packaging, and I was not disappointed with the taste. The consistency is just right. Some fruit syrups are too runny. But Rudy’s is delicious. I was planning to buy several of the gift sets to give to family for Christmas but was sad to hear about the freeze. I’ll wait not too patiently until next year. The syrup is great, but my favorite part is the whole story about Rudy and the family.

I used to make this with my parents as a kid, using vines grown in the backyard. That doesn’t happen anymore, and instead we did the store brand Boysenberry syrup. It wasn’t nearly as good. This syrup has a much better (and stronger!) taste and is great with waffles, pancakes, etc. I found the last batch to be a little bit more runny or watery than prior batches, so not as thick, but still delicious!

Thank you for your feedback, Eric! We make each batch of boysenberry syrup by hand, so even though we cook the recipe the same way every time, the syrup still varies slightly from batch to batch. Our syrup is great for summer drink recipes in addition to the more traditional favorites, such as poured over pancakes, waffles, and ice cream!

Being from the Great State of Texas we don’t grow Boysenberries down here. Only Blackberries and Dew Berries. It’s too hot for Boysenberries. My first experience tasting Boysenberry syrup was many years ago at IHOP. This syrup was one of a selection brought to the table. That’s how I fell in love with it.
